One of the video works comprising the video installation presented by Asako Fujikura + Takahiro Ohmura in the Japan Pavilion at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, IN-BETWEEN.
The Japan Pavilion is composed of four T-shaped wall-column units, radially connected like the blades of a windmill. Careful observation reveals that the central “hole” of the building was not intentionally cut into the floor or ceiling, but rather remained as a void—the by-product of the structure’s rotational configuration. The dialogue scenario functions as a kind of theatrical tutorial, revealing and sharing this inherent “rotationality” of the pavilion.
Object Video serves as a guide for this reading. Set on a dimly lit, fictional terrain, it literally casts a spotlight on the actor currently speaking—where each “actor” is, in fact, an architectural element of the Japan Pavilion. In these moments, parts of the building emerge as speaking subjects, allowing visitors to connect voices with forms and to discover the individuality of each object that constitutes the pavilion.
Object Video -
